UX/UI & Digital Design in Consulting
Ranging from interactive prototypes for commercial leasing applications, to user research for a major Australian retailer’s sustainability practices.
Context
I worked collaboratively on data and analytics projects, focusing on design aspects such as dashboard prototyping, user research, as well as workshop facilitation and ensuring the team is united on goals and deliverables. I worked with both internal team members and external stakeholders closely on digital designs such as infographics, presentations, change management collateral, with a range of clients in government, retail and major corporations.
The approach
My general approach was creating value through rapid outputs and iterations, consulting frequently with product owners to ensure deliverables were on the right track but taking ownership of design space as the expert consultant on the team. Where applicable I ran discovery exercises, created low to high fidelity designs and conducted user testing for feedback.
Reflection
Overall, I learned about balancing business needs with user needs on these projects, and how to manage time or budget constraints. Stakeholder management was a key part of these roles as well as delivering designs and being able to walk the client through my thought processes and decisions.
Lease Easy for Charter Hall
Design and development of in-house platform Lease Easy, which allowed Charter Hall’s leasing team to revolutionise their processes for retail leasing.
Timeline
September - October 2022
Role
UI Designer
Tools
Figma
I produced prototypes and delivered them in a timely manner, requesting feedback and iterating rapidly while understanding the complexities of the platform. Designs for the screens covered the process from the first phone call through to the retail shop opening. As a result of this project, Charter Hall has halved the average time spent negotiating and confirming retail leases with tenants, with plans to roll it out to other functions, such as office leasing. This project resulted in the company being awarded the top property and construction award for Most Innovative Companies in 2023.
Aginic Webpage Prototypes and Mockups
Fresh designs for new webpages on the Aginic company website.
Timeline
May 2022
Role
UI Designer
Tools
Figma
I designed the layouts on Figma and added interactive prototype elements such as scrolling banners and hover states to enhance the mockup and achieve stakeholder approval for production in Wordpress.
Sustainability Data Strategy for Major Australian Retailer
A major Australian retailer required a review of their data collection and analysis processes needed to meet sustainability goals for major low cost retailers.
Timeline
October - December 2022
Role
User Researcher
Tools
Miro
Alongside the Lead Data Consultant, I facilitated extensive workshops and consultation meetings encompassing the design, manufacturing and packaging teams’ workflows and the various ways data enters the business. I managed the Miro board workshop templates and synthesised findings. I interacted closely with the internal technical team and the client, answering client queries and taking on the responsibility of calendar management to book in the numerous workshops that were required. As a result, we planned a roadmap to improve data collection at the source to reduce manual processes and capture data fit for analysis.
Finance Infographics, Dashboards and Reporting for Government Department
A government department’s finance directorate required the design of a senior executive report of a recent data conversion cycle reconciliation, and a range of supporting collateral for future projects.
Timeline
January - April 2023
Role
Digital Designer
Tools
Figma, Miro, PowerPoint, PowerBI, Adobe Illustrator
As the directorate approached completion of a ERP (enterprise resourcing planning) data conversion cycle and several legacy systems were shortly going to cease operation, they wanted create a dashboard to act as an archive for the legacy system data. The finance directorate was also seeking to establish consistency across documentation and presentations due to the increasing complexity of requests and varying approaches amongst team members.
I created a series of infographics to demonstrate the scale, scope and volume of work involved, such as the statistics captured during data reconciliations, number of reconciliations achieved and the sheer volume of tables, rows, fields and objects involved.
After facilitating a branding workshop to ascertain the key aspects of the directorate’s sub brand, I produced a style guide to allow team members to consistently present various outputs. I also compiled common format templates such as Word documents and PowerPoint slide decks.
For the dashboard design, I drafted low-fidelity prototypes of the archival dashboard for team feedback and confirmation that it met their needs, before creating high-fidelity mockups. I ensured that the design met functionality requirements, such as being searchable and filterable.
As a result, the directorate was completely prepared for the upcoming executive report and were future-proofed for future documents created by the team.
Aginic Promotional Video
Aginic wanted to promote their ‘Protosprint’ project process with a video to be inserted on a webpage. The video needed to reflect the Aginic brand identity while also informing potential clients about the Protosprint process and what it can achieve.
Timeline
January - February 2023
Role
Script Writer, Digital Designer
Tools
Figma, Adobe Illustrator
After a project kickoff workshop to establish who the audience was, the message we wanted to deliver, as well as sharing ideas and inspiration, I delivered a script for the video with initial ideas for visuals alongside the script delivery.
Once a storyboard based on the script was drafted, I created video assets, such as infographics and lower third overlays, for the editor to utilise in the production of the video.
